Descendants of John Maxfield
of Salisbury, Massachusetts
Eighth Generation

DAYON M.8 MAXFIELD (William7, David6, possibly Isaac5, David4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Wisconsin on February 1868 (census records), a child of William Frederick Maxfield and his wife Lydia W. Grimmer. His family moved to Nebraska some time between 1876 and 1879. When Dayon was eleven years old, in 1879, his mother died, and the family was scattered. I have not found Dayon in the 1880 census.

Dayon Maxfield married about 1889 MABEL DEVOLT, who was born at Wisconsin in May 1871 (census records). The family was reported in the 1900 Census at Hamilton, Hamilton County, Nebraska, as follows:

Name Related Race Sex Born MS B FB MB Occupation
Maxfield, Deyon head W M Feb 1868 M WI MI WI farmer
Maxfield, Mabel wife W F May 1871 M WI MI
Maxfield, Henry B. son W M Oct 1889 S NE WI WI at school
Maxfield, Clyde E. son W M Jul 1891 S NE WI WI at school

Deyon and Mabel had been married eleven years. Mabel had given birth to three children, two of whom were living (Roy had died at the age of four months).

The 1910 Census (857:3B) reported the Dayon Maxfield family at McFadden Township, York County, Nebraska:

Line Name Related Sex Race Age MS B FB MB Occupation
62 Maxfield, Dayon M. head M W 43 M1 WI NY ME laborer, odd jobs
63 Maxfield, Mable wife F W 38 M1 WI WI NY none
64 Maxfield, Henry B. son M W 20 S NE WI WI carpenter, house
65 Maxfield, Pearl L. daughter F W 9 S NE WI WI none

Dayon and Mable had been married twenty years; Mable had given birth to four children, three of whom were living. However that same census (847:6A) reported Henry, there called Bert, and his brother Clyde, at Hamilton, Nebraska, living with their uncle John Devolt (age 45, born Wisconsin, single), where all three were working as carpenters with general work.

The 1920 Census (995:6B) reported Dayon and Mabel Maxfield at Bushnell, Kimball County, Nebraska. Bert and Pearl, both single, were living with them. Dayon and Bert were engaged in farming. The next entry in that census was for Clyde Maxfield and his wife Florence.

The 1930 Census (2623:5A) reported Dayon and Mabel at Pine Bluff, Laramie County, Wyoming. Dayon listed his occupation as house mover, contract work.
