Descendants of John Maxfield

Eighth Generation

WAYNE THOMAS8 MAXFIELD (Edward7, John6, Henry5, David4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Fairfax, Vermont, on 5 September 1894 (WWI Draft; Fairfax Gen), a child of Edward Maxfield and his wife Minnie N. Ryan. Wayne registered for the draft at Franklin County, Vermont, on 5 June 1917 (WWI Draft), and reported the following:
Wayne Thomas Maxfield, 22, Fairfax, VT
b. Sep 5, 1894 Fairfax
farming, for father, Fairfax
single, caucasian
medium height, medium build, dark brown eyes, light brown hair
Wayne Thomas Maxfield married EDITH M. SHOVER at Fairfax on 22 August 1917 (Fairfax Gen). Edith was born at Quebec on 28 July 1900 (SSDI). She came to the United States in 1904 (1930 census).

The 1920 census (1872:1B) reported this couple and their son living at Waterville, Lamoille County, Vermont, with her family. The head of the household was her father, Lewis Shover (it looks like "Gove" on the census record), age 52, born in French Canada, a farmer, divorced. Lewis' brother Eugene, 53, single, was working on the farm, as was Lewis' son-in-law, Wayne S. Maxfield, 25. Lewis' daughter, Edith M. Maxfield, was 19; Lewis' grandson, Page E. Maxfield, was three months old.

The 1930 census (2428:2B) reported this family at Fletcher, Franklin County, Vermont:

Wayne and Edith were married at the ages of 22 and 17 respectively; Edith came to the United States in 1904 and had not been naturalized. I have not determined how Eugene German was related.

Edith (Shover) Maxfield died on 15 September 1972 (SSDI).
