The 1870 census (1620:1:170B) reported Edward Maxfield at Fairfax, Vermont, a farm laborer, age 23, living in the household of Franklin and Lucie Levant.
Edward Maxfield married MINNIE N. RYAN at Farifax on 8 June 1893 (Farifax Gen). Minnie died sometime between the birth of their last child (30 May 1898, and the taking of the 1900 census (1 June 1900), when Edward was recorded as a widower.
The 1900 census (1691:2:68) recorded the Edward Maxfield family at Fairfax. Widower Edward Maxfield, born April 1849, was a farmer. Son Wayne T. Maxfield was born September 1895 and son Page E. Maxfield was born September 1897. Benjamin Kennison, a 22 year old farm laborer also lived in the household. The youngest child, only two years old, was not recorded; perhaps Hayden was living with some other family member.
