ERNEST C.8 MAXFIELD (Moses7, James6, Eliphalet5-4-3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Pittsfield, Somerset County, Maine, in November 1853 (Pierson, 1900 census), a child of Moses Maxfield and his wife Asenath Smith.

Ernest Maxfield and SARAH VIOLA STACY were married at Pittsfield on 25 January 1874 by A. L. Gerrish, minister of the gospel (VR Me). They were both of Pittsfield. Sarah was born at Maine in February 1855 (1900 census).

The record further indicated that Ernest and Sarah had been married for 26 years, and that Sarah had six children, four of whom were living.

The 1910 Census (546:2:113A) reported the family at Pittsfield. Ernest Maxfield, 56, was superintendent of a woolen mill; Sarah V. Maxfield, his wife, had six children, four living; son Ernest Maxfield, 24, married five years, was a weaver at a woolen mill; son Stacey Maxfield was 13; son-in-law Robert W. Corey, 30, had come to the United States from Canada in 1890, was a naturalized citizen, and worked as a commercial teacher of crockery; Bertha M. Corey, wife of Robert, and daughter of Ernest and Sarah Maxfield, age 32, was a saleswoman at a dry goods story. Robert and Bertha had been married nine years, and had no children.

The 1920 census (648:14A) found Ernest Maxfield, age 66, his wife Viola S., 65, and their single daughter Elizabeth G., 42, living at Pittsfield village in Pittsfield, Maine. Ernest was superintendent of a woolen mill.

Sarah Maxfield died in 1920 (NMGR 8:20). The 1930 census (839:) found widower Ernest C. Maxfield, 76, living at 12 Waverly Street, Pittsfield. Also at that address was Edith M. Bartlett, a 61 year old widow, working as housekeeper.

Ernest and Sarah Maxfield had the following children:
