Descendants of John Maxfield
of Salisbury, Massachusetts
Eighth Generation

FRANK H.8 MAXFIELD (William7, Josiah6, Jacob5, Eliphalet4-3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Maine on 6 October 1872 (WWI Draft), a child of William A. Maxfield and his wife Sarah F. Tucker

Frank H. Maxfield married ELVIRA E. COLE at Maine on 22 May 1902 (Me M). At that time he was from Westbrook, she from Greenwood. Elvira was born at Maine on 12 March 1880 (SSDI).

The 1910 census (543:2:151B) reported this family at Greenwood, Oxford County, Maine:

Name Related Sex Race Age MS B FB MB Occupation
Maxfield, Frank H. head M W 37 M1 ME NH ME farmer,

Maxfield, Ellie E. wife F W 30 M1 ME ME ME none
Maxfield, Violet E. daughter F W 7 S ME ME ME none
Maxfield, Philip S. son M W 5 S ME ME ME none
Maxfield, Margaret J. daughter F W 2 S ME ME ME none

This record also stated that Frank and Ellie had been married eight years, and Ellie had three children, all living.

When Frank signed up for the draft, on 12 September 1918 (WWI Draft), he reported at Bridgeport, Connecticut. He reported the following:

Frank H. Maxfield
262 Pixley Place, Bridgeport, Fairfield Co., CT
45, b. Oct 6, 1872 white
line clerk, Mr. Ryder, Liberty Ordinance Co.
rel: Elvira Maxfield, 262 Pixley
tall; medium build; gray eyes; gray/black hair
The 1930 census (830:) found Frank and Elvira keeping an inn at Falmouth, Maine, as part of a four generation family:

Name Related Sex Race Age MS B FB MB Occupation

Frank and Elvira had been married at the ages of 29 and 22 respectively, James and Marguerite at the ages of 22 and 16 respectively. Perhaps the census taker wrote the wrong surname for daughter Virginia.

Frank H. Maxfield died at Portland, Maine, on 29 December 1955 (His News). The New York Times noted that he was three times an unsuccessful candidate for Governor on the Socialist ticket. Elvira died at Portland on 21 November 1965 (Me D; SSDI).
