OSCAR WALDO7 MAXFIELD (Josiah6, James5, Nathaniel4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at New Boston Township, Mercer County, Illinois, on 13 September 1852 (NMGR 7:91), a child of Josiah Maxfield and his wife Sarah Swafford.

Oscar W. Maxfield married AMELIA AGNES ALBON at Alton, Madison County, Illinois, on 25 November 1874 (NMGR 7:91). Amelia was born at Saint Louis, Missouri, on 11 June 1858 (NMGR 7:91), to James Albon and Sarah Brown.

Oscar and Amelia lived first at New Boston. But they were living at Alton when their children were born in 1875 and 1878. Oscar was a painting contractor (NMGR 7:91). About 1879 they moved to Godfrey, Madison County, Illinois, where Oscar was superintendent of grounds and buildings of Monticello Seminary from 1879 to 1918 (NMGR 7:91). Oscar continued to live in Godfrey, although by 1929 he had a winter home in Lake Wales, Polk County, Florida (NMGR 7:91). He was a member of the Congregational Church (NMGR 7:91).

The 1880 Census (233:8) reported this family in Godfrey, consisting of Oscar 27, a painter, Amelia, 23, Sadie 5, and Josiah 2.

The 1900 Census (326:16B) reported the family in Godfrey as follows:

This record also indicated that Oscar and Amelia had been married 25 years, and Ameilia had six children, five still living.

The 1910 Census (309:2:34B) reported at Godfrey Township a household consisting of Oscar W. Maxfield, 57, superintendent of grounds at Monticello Seminary, Amelia A., 50, Sarah A, 34, teacher at the academy, Josiah B., 32, selling real estate from an office, Leroy H., 29, mechanical engineer at a glass factory, Elizabeth, 26, and Guy W., 23, clerk in an office.

Amelia Maxfield died at Godfrey, Illinois, on 17 August 1934, reported in the Edwardsville Intelligencer:

Mrs. O. W. Maxfield, 76, died at the home of her son, L. H. Maxfield, Friday morning at 9:45 o'clock. Death followed several months of failing health. She was a native of St. Louis where she lived until her marriage to Oscar Maxfield in 1879. They moved to Gilman Cottage on the campus of Monticello Seminary, where for 49 years Mr. Maxfield was superintendent of the buildings and grounds. Besides her husband, two sons, L. H. Maxfield and Guy Maxfield of Taft, Cal., and two daughters, Mrs. Sidney Malette of Helena, Mont., and Mrs. Herbert Scatchard, Roanoke, Va., survive. Mrs. Maxfield was well known to Monticello alumni. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the home of L. H. Maxfield with interment in Oakwood Cemetery at sundown. Mrs. Maxfield was a long time member of the Congregational Church and taught a young men's class in the Sunday School for a number of years.
Oscar W. Maxfield died at Spokane, Washington, on 12 March 1940 (WA D).
