GILBERT ALLEN9 MAXFIELD (Frederick8, Gilbert7, John6, William5, David4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Sycamore, DeKalb County, Illinois on 1 December 1882 (WWI Draft; SSDI) a child of Frederick Glenmore Maxfield and his first wife Mary Mariah Cook.
When Gilbert was thirteen he was bitten by a rattlesnake; the cure was reported in the Daily Inter-Ocean (7 Sep 1895):

Boy is Bitten by a Rattlesnake, but Will Survive
Sycamore, Ill., Sept. 6.--Special Telegram.--Gilbert, the 13-year-old son of F. G. Maxfield, living a couple of miles out of town, was bitten by a rattlesnake last night while in the barn feeding the horses. He was kept full of whisky all night, and is in a fair way to recover. The snake was killed. It had a couple of rattles and was about eighteen inches long.
Gilbert Allen Maxfield married MARTHA PAGE at Marshall County, Iowa, on 9 June 1909 (IA M). Martha was born at Iowa about 1887/8 (1930 census).

Obituary: Alice L. Maxfield, 82, of Marshalltown died of a stroke Saturday at the Iowa Veterans Home, where she was a resident 11 years. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home. Burial will be in Marietta Cemetery.
Miss Maxfield, who retired as a nurse at Veterans Medical Center in Kansas City, was born in Marshall County and returned 11 years ago. She also previously had lived in Des Moines. She was a veteran of the Army Air Corps, having served during World War II, and a member of Albion United Methodist Church and Des Moines Retired Nurses Association.
Among survivors are two sisters, Ruth Benbow of Marshalltown and Doris Maxfield of Sherman, Texas; and three brothers, Fred of McKinney, Texas, William of Marshalltown and James of Alamo, Texas. . . .
