HENRY5 MAXFIELD (David4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Vermont about 1780 a son of David Maxfield and his wife Judith Clough. He died at Westford, Chittenden County, Vermont, on 16 January 1854.[1] He married MINERVA RICHARDS. She was born about 1787 and died at Westford on 10 May 1851.[2]
Henry and Minerva probably married about 1800, as their first child was born about 1800-1 according to her age at death.
The Henry Maxfield family was reported at Georgia, Franklin County, Vermont, in the censuses of 1810 and 1820, in Milton, Chittenden County, in the censuses of 1830, 1840 and 1850. Henry and Minerva both died at Westford in the decade following 1850.
Of the persons listed here as children of Henry and Minerva, most are identified as such on their death records. Philo, Minor and Sanford are not so identified, but their early places of residence point to the possibility of being from this family, and they fit into the age and sex groupings of the early censuses. The census records for Henry Maxfield indicate persons in the following age and sex categories, which could possibly be explained as follows:[3]

Other than placing Minerva in the wrong age category in 1810, and the three teen-age boys in the wrong catgory in 1820, this information fits what we know of the family.
By 1850 Philo had moved to Ohio, Minor had moved to Virginia, and Rimmon was living at Crown Point, Essex County, New York. Sanford and John were married and living at Westford; Mary Ann, Minerva Jane and Eliza were married and living at Milton. William resided at an institution for the insane at Brattleboro, Windham County, Vermont. Henry, Minerva and son Alfred were living at Milton with daughter Minerva Jane and son-in-law Alfred Coffee. The census record described Henry and Minerva, ages 70 and 60, as paupers, and Alfred, age 21, as a farmer.[4]
Henry and Minerva are buried at Brookside Cemetery, Westford.[5]
