JOHN ARNOLD7 MAXFIELD (Nathaniel6, Eliphalet5, Nathaniel4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Albion, Maine, on 14 May 1822 (VR Me), a child of Nathaniel Maxfield and his wife Adah Arnold.

John A. Maxfield moved to Saxon Township, Stark County, Illinois, about 1845, and bought a farm there.

JANE WINTER married John A. Maxfield at Stark County on 8 May 1845 (IL M). A daughter of William and Mary Winter, Jane was born at Luzerne, Pennsylvania on 27 March 1827 (NMGR 7:87).

John and Jane Maxfield were reported in the 1850 Census (232) in Stark County. The family consisted of John A. Maxfield (age 27), Jane (23), Thomas J. (4), Charles W. (2), Adah A. (5 months) and Alma Winter (18), perhaps a sister of Jane. John was a farmer with real estate worth $800. John was born in Maine, Jane in Pennsylvania, the children in Illinois, and Alma in New York.

The 1860 census (229:798) reported this family at Goshen Township (Toulon Post Office), Stark Counbty, Illinois, consisting of John A., 38, farmer; Jane, 33; Thomas, 14; Charles, 13; Ada, 10; Jeremiah, 8; John, 6; Lotan D., 3; and another Charles, 23, laborer. All the children except Lotan were in school. The last-mentioned Charles was John's brother.

The 1870 Census (278:1:373B) reported this family at Goshen Township, LaFayette Post Office, Stark County:

In 1880 (252:379), J. A. Maxfield, 58, and his wife, Jane, 53, were living at Goshen Towenship with their sons, L. D., 22, and E. L., 17.

The 1900 Census (306:8B) reported John and Jane Maxfield living in Wethersfield Township, Henry County, Illinois. It gave John's birth month as May 1822, Jane's as March 1827. John was a fruit farmer. Jane had seven children, all living.

Jane Maxfield died at Kewanee, Illinois, on 24 October 1901 (NMGR 7:87). John was living with his son, John, at Wethersfield township, at the time of the 1910 census (291:2:277A). John A. Maxfield died at Moline, Illinois, on 13 October 1911 (NMGR 7:87). His body was buried at Saxon Cemetery, Stark County, Illinois.

John and Jane Maxfield had the following children:
